The MacBook PRO and….

… why I love it so much.

I think I forgot to tell you people that I got the mid-range 15” MBP (2.66ghz/4gb ram/256vram/320gb drive) when I started at alex&fred on monday and mighty my, apple has finally done it.

The past three years, I’ve gone through one macbook and four macbook pros (this being the fourth) and this is by far the best one. It’s somewhat near to perfection actually.

Apple has gotten their head around cooling. The fans doesn’t go wild all the time no more, especially not when I visit sites that has flash content. On all the others (including the first gen unibody I moved away from to this machine) sounded like cheap russian airplanes as soon as I browsed to youtube.

The battery. Oh god the battery. I love this thing. It’ll freaking last for 4 hrs if I don’t care about what I’m doing (in other words, I do the same stuff as I would if it was connected to the power outlet) - and I’m sure that if I turned off wifi, turned down the brightness and turned off the keyboard backlight (among other things) I would be able to cram out another hour or two out if it.

The screen is gorgeous - even if I forgot to choose the matte one (why isn’t it default, btw?). Also, the new “touch” to it - that it fades when I turn down the brightess or it wakes up from being dimmed - is awesome. I’ve always wondered why apple hasn’t had that in their computers - I know Acer has for a while.

The build quality on it has really improved if compared to even the first gen. The hinges on the screen feel sturdier, the trackpad has the exact amount of resistance that I like and they keyboard feels like a dream. I really do prefer this type of keyboard to the “non-unibody” mbp’s.

This is easily the best machine I’ve ever had. Now it’s up to apple to show me that I need a better one in a year. Give me something awesome. Impress me like I’ve just been impressed. Please.

Failspell and failblog

Tumblr won’t let me edit my posts, so I’ll write it here instead.

I ment cereal, not serial and as you all can see - there’s clearly more than 2  things I’ve learned..

New hardware…

And the freaking stuff that comes with it.

Gosh. It took me all day, but I’m finally (at least what I think is) 100% moved over to the new MBP I got. I’ve learned two things from this experience:

  • a fresh computer with manually moved files are way better than the migration assistant, albeit not as smooth and easy. The more “pro” users will benefit from doing it manually though, no doubt.
  • FW800 is the best thing that happened to the port-scene since sliced bread.
  • 320gb > 250gb
  • Built-in battery > removable failbatâ„¢
  • 2.66ghz > 2.4ghz
  • Red Bull and/or espresso is needed when doing this maneuver.
  • Eating serial from the box is really nice, but it might fall down on your keyboard. Not something you want when setting up your brand new baby. Try and sit back while eating.
  • Load up your phone with games. Soduku is nice. Not that you’ll need them when you set the computer up - but they’re fun.

There. I’m finished. Tomorrow is kick-ass-work-awesome-day.
